Polyester strapping differs from steel in weight, flexibility and corrosion resistance. These differences affect how it is applied, how it responds to load movement and how operators handle it.

Review the weight and edge characteristics of the strap, along with the procedures operators use to apply and remove it. A change in material also requires a review of the tools, protective equipment and handling practices used in your facility.

Material cost is one part of the comparison. Consider the amount of strap used per load, coil-change frequency, seals or other consumables, and the equipment needed to apply the strap. Confirm recycled-content specifications and local recovery options for the particular product you select.

Do not choose a replacement by strap width alone. Review the manufacturer’s specifications for the proposed strap and tool combination, and evaluate it against the requirements of the actual load. Some applications will continue to require steel or another load-securing method.
