The United States Treasury Department in 1930, issued the first federal specifications for packaging supplies / corrugated and solid "fiber boxes" used by the civil agencies. Today, the Military and Federal register lists more than 20,000 items.
The term, “military packaging” or “milspec” is used to identify items that have been developed in compliance with MIL-STD-2073-1, DOD Standard Practice for Military Packaging or specific military specifications.
The science of military packaging for the United States Government was developed from a well-recognized, logistical need. The field has evolved to accommodate the many technology changes in how the military distributes its supplies.
